2 protocols for the moment : FC (fibre channel) & iSCSI.
If you want to use FC protocol, you must install a HBA (Host Bus Adapter) in each server.
SAN infrastructure : network cables, switches, ...
Disk storage : areas are grouped and called LUN's (Logical Unit Number).
SAN management software : the most important part of the SAN.
